Theaim of this projectis a strategic and forward-looking initiative to define the future shape of community housing. It aims to provide a clear vision for how the sector can grow, evolve, and strengthen in response to increasing demand, policy shifts, and funding opportunities.
At its core, this work aims to bring the sector together, ensuring alignment between providers, investors, and government. It will also seek input from other stakeholders with a consumer perspective. It will articulate a shared direction, guiding investment, policy, and operational decisions to create a more cohesive, effective, and sustainable community housing sector. This work will specifically signpost the key financial, business planning, development and risk capabilities required by providers to enable the growth and strengthening of the sector.
CHIA, the National Association of Renters Organisations and representatives from Victoria, NT, WA and NSW have collaborated on a proposal to establish, facilitate, and report on a national community housing Tenants Voice. With funding support from the NSW Government and a contribution from the Northern Territory Government we have recently started work on the project.
Our hope is that the Voice would gather views, expectations and experiences from tenants to inform the community housing sector's practices, projects, and policy development. Rather than report on individual organisations, the intention is to understand opinions about the sector as a whole and assist us in making the case for prioritising sector growth.
